Costa Rica 3: Samara

Finis les montagnes et les nuages, en route pour Samara, dans la péninsule de Nicoya sur la côte pacifique.
We've had enough of mountains and clouds so we hit the road for Samara in the Nicoaya peninsula on the Pacific coast.




Petit arrêt dans un boui-boui sur la route Interamericana et dégutation de la boisson la plus étrange qu'on ait jamais bue! Super visqueuse, goût inconnu. Pas dégueulasse mais très space. Le petit vieux qui tient la boutique nous explique que c'est bon pour la digestion, mais on ne réussira pas à comprendre à partir de quoi c'est fait. Une recherche sur Google semble indiquer qu'il s'agit de Chan, une boisson faite à partir de graines de guacanaste.

Little break on a 'soda' on the side of the Interamericana where we get a taste of the strangest drink we've ever had. It had the texture and viscosity of a jellyfish and it was sweet. We wouldn't describe it as disgusting but it was really bizarre. The old guy who served us the drink said it is good for digestion but we didn't menage to understand what it was made of. A google search seems to indicate that it might have been Chan, a drink made out of guanacaste beans.

La plage de Samara. On voulait louer une voiture pour visiter les environs, mais le calme et la beauté de Samara nous ont fait oublier cette idée et rester ici 3 jours.

Samara beach. We wanted to rent a car to visit the surroundings but the calm and beauty of this beach made us change our minds. We ended up staying for 3 days.



Après une nuit dans un Bed and Breakfast sympa mais un peu cher et tenu par une vieille américaine religieuse (mais qui nous a quand même laissé dormir dans le même lit), on est tombé sur cet autre Bed and Breakfast super sympa: Las Mariposas.

After one night in a nice but rather pricy Bed and Breakfast, held by an elderly religious American lady, we come across Las Mariposas a very welcoming hostel.

Located 100 m from the beach and run by Leonie, a young Dutch girl who's very laid back and cool. She knows the surroundings by heart and has good tips about everything that's worth doing around there.

D'autres habitants de las Mariposas: Nora, Steffen et Charlie. Nora est venue apprendre l'espagnol dans l'école liguistique interculturelle de Samara. Steffen traverse l'Amérique Latine avec son sac à dos. Et Charlie apprend à son fils les secrets des vacances pas cher, il a même un blog sur ses voyages. On est ici tous les 5 dans le meilleur soda (petit resto) de Samara, chez Pablito.

And other guests: Nora, Steffen and Charlie. Nora came to learn spanish on the language school of Samara called Intercultura. Steffen is a back packer travelling all across latin America (full of energy and good stories). And Charlie set out to teach the secrets of traveling on a small budget to his son and also has a travel blog. Here we are all five of us in the best 'soda' of Samara called Pablito's. Pablito's is known to sell the most bear in the region and is a local favorite.
