Costa Rica 2: Monteverde

Depuis La Fortuna on prend le "jeep-boat-jeep" pour rejoindre Monteverde à travers le lac Arenal et les pistes caillouteuses.

From Fortuna, we took a jeep, a boat and then again a jeep to reach Monteverde on the other side of the Arenal lake.

Le village de Monteverde, perdu dans la montagne nuageuse. Village artificiel construit jute à côté de 2 parcs nationaux, Monteverde et Santa Elena. Bien trop touristique à notre goût, une espèce de Disney Land pour américains en quête de sensations tropicales. On y restera pas longtemps.

The village of Monteverde, lost in the cloudy mountains. This articicial village is nothing but a tourist trap next to 2 national parks: Monteverde and Santa Elena. A bit too touristy to our taste but we didn't stay there too long.

Visite du parc Santa Elena et de sa forêt de nuage, tôt le matin, juste tous les 2, très relaxant. La forêt tropicale est située en altitude et baigne dans une brume quasi-permanente, ce qui crée un écosystème très varié.

We did visit the Santa Elena national parc in the cloud forrest the next morning just the two of us. It was quite a treat. The tropical 'coud forest' is bathed in thick fog all the time which creates a diverse ecosystem.

Costa Rica 1: La Fortuna

Et voilà on se sauve au Costa Rica en laissant notre petit boud'chou à Boston entre bonnes mains. Premières vacances sans Ozan pour nous, et première fois qu'Ozan sera abandonné si longtemps (2 semaines). Pura vida!
And here we are off to Costa Rica leaving little Ozan in Boston in good hands. Our first vacation without him and his first long separation from us (2 weeks). Pura vida!
Notre avion arrive à San Jose, la capitale, mais on se sauve assez rapidement vers La Fortuna et son volcan Arenal.
Our plane lands in the capital San Jose but we quicly leave to La Fortuna to see its impressive volcano called Arenal.

La rue de notre cabine, avec vue sur le volcan Arenal. Arenal est le volcan le plus actif du Costa Rica, éveillé depuis 1968.

Le matin on part visiter la forêt tropicale dans une atmosphère chaude et super humide.
In the morning we visit the tropical forest in hot and humid weather.




Puis l'après-midi on s'aventure avec un guide au pied du volcan en espérant y voir de la lave rouge toute fraîche. On y verra les coulées de lave de 1968 et 1998, mais le mauvais temps nous empêche de voir le sommet du volcan et la lave fraîche.
In the afternoon, we take a guided hike to the skirts of the volcano hoping to see red hot lava. Due to unfortunate weather we only ended up seeing the remainders of lava from the eruptions in 1968 and 1998 but no fresh lava.

Le soir nous allons nous baigner dans les sources chaudes de Tabacón. Une rivière d'eau chaude au milieu de la forêt tropicale, naturellement chauffée par le volcan, et aménagée en multiples bassins... le paradis! On y restera jusque 10h du soir, mais malheureusement on a pas pris de photo. Juste pour vous donner une idée voici une photo de leur site web:
In the evening we take a dip in the Tabacon hot springs. Tabacon springs are build on the naturally hot river (heated by the lava from the volcano) and are organized in multiple basins with variable temperatures in the middle of a tropical forest..quite impressive! We stay there until 10pm enjoying long baths. We haven't been able to take pictures but here is a post card to give you an idea.


Le lendemain matin, on quitte La Fortuna, et le volcan se décide à nous faire un petit au-revoir à sa manière: un petit rot de fumée (avec le bruit!). Vue depuis notre chambre:
The next day we leave La Fortuna, and the volcano says farewell to us in its own way: a big burp accompanied by a cloud of smoke as seen from our cabina's window.

Anniversaire d'Ozan / Ozan's birthday

Nous voilà revenus de 3 semaines de vacances, Boston tout d'abord pour y fêter l'anniversaire d'Ozan avec les parents à Deniz, puis Costa Rica que tous les deux. On va essayer de mettre à jour le blog dans les prochains jours.
Here we are back in Berkeley after almost 3 weeks of vacation. Fist we were in Boston to celebrate Ozan's birthday with his grandparents, then we were in Costa Rica just the two of us. We'll try to update the blog in the days that follow.


Pour son 2e anniversaire Ozan est allé au musée des enfants à Boston.
For his 2nd birthday Ozan went to the Children's Museum of Boston






Ozan a reçu une petite grenouille verte mangeuse de pieds, et pleins d'autres cadeaux bien sûr.
Ozan got a foot-eating green frog for his birthday as well as plenty of other presents from his grand parents, buyuk teyze, buyuk dede and nine from Turkey.


Également une carte électronique rigolote de papy et mamie.
He also got a fun e-card from his grand parents in France.

Et un super bon gâteau d'Anneanne.
And here's the chocolate profiterol he had as a birthday cake and Ozan showing his appreciation for it.
