Hammock / Hamac

Le petit bébé grossit, et sa maman a un peu de mal à le porter, ça lui fait mal au dos. Heureusement on a ramené un joli hamac du Mexique, dans lequel Deniz se repose tous les soirs.
Our baby is getting big! this new weight in the belly is giving his mom a little back pain lately. That's why we're so glad to have brought a hammock from Mexico that we installed in our living room. It turns out it's the best remedy for back aches!

Notre hamac est fabriqué a partir de sisal, un cactus agave voisin de celui qui sert à faire la téquila.
Here is what this hammock is made of: the same sort of cactus that is used in making Tequila. It's called sisal.

Mexico 8: Tulum

On rejoint la mer des Caraibes à Tulum, une petite ville côtière très hippie et relax où on passera deux jours dans un "hôtel" situé sur la plage.
We return to the Caribbean sea at Tulum, a small coastal town, quite laid back and hippie where we pass two days at a "hotel" on the beach.
Notre petit cabanon (celui du milieu) sans eau ni électricité.
Here is our little cabin devoid of luxuries like running water or electricity.


L'interieur du cabanon, avec notre lit suspendu et sa moustiquaire, qui tient plutot lieu de "sablière" en fait, vu tout ce que le vent nous ramenait de la plage.
Inside the little cabin with our suspended bed and its fly screen. The fly screen served mostly as a sand screen to stop the sandy winds from burying us in sand while we were sleeping.

Tulum possède une des rares cité maya construites sur l'océan (On a oublié de la prendre en photo, celle-ci a été prise sur internet).
Tulum is one of the rare Maya cities constructed near the ocean (We forgot to take a photo, this one comes from an internet site)

Et voilà, après ces deux jours à Tulum on a rejoint Playa del Carmen, mais on n'a pas pris de photos, car ça ne nous a pas plu du tout (plein de touristes américains et européens tout rouges qui se bourrent la gueule la nuit et décuitent en brûlant sur la plage le lendemain). Une seule nuit a Playa del Carmen puis direction l'aéroport de Cancun. Et oui 10 jours déjà, notre voyage prend fin :(
So there it is, after two days in Tulum, we return to Playa del Carmen, where we didn't take any pictures (we didn't like this place much: it was very touristic with almost no local people and suffered from all the dullness of a mass tourism town). After only one night spent in Playa del Carmen we catch a bus to bring us to the airport in Cancun. Yep, 10 days flew by and time to get back already :(

Mexico 7: Chichen Itza

Chichén Itzá est une ancienne ville maya, probablement le principal centre religieux du Yucatán. Elle est considérée aujourd'hui comme l'une des 7 nouvelles merveilles du monde.
Chichen Itza is an old maya city, probably the principal religious center of Yucatan. It is considered today as one of the seven new wonders of the world and attracts visitors from all over the planet.






Le terrain de pelote, sport rituel parfois considéré comme l'ancêtre du basket-ball moderne (wiki).
This is the pelote field, a sports ritual considered to be the ancestor of basketball.

Lors des équinoxes de printemps et d'automne (21 mars et 22 septembre), en fin d'après midi, le soleil projète sur la pyramide Kukulcan une onde de lumière sur les escaliers de la face nord. Ces triangles de lumière s'alignent avec la tête de serpent située à la base des escaliers, laissant apparaître un énorme serpent glissant le long des escaliers. Par le plus grand des hasards on était la pour ce spectacle!

Kukulcán's pyramid is notable for the fact that at the spring and fall equinoxes (March 21 and September 22) the sun projects an undulating pattern of light on the northern stairway for a few hours in the late afternoon. These triangles of light link up with the massive stone carvings of snake heads at the base of the stairs, suggesting a massive serpent snaking down the structure.Luckily we were there right in time.

Mexico 5: Valladolid

Fini Merida, direction Valladolid, une petite ville au centre du Yucatan. Rien de très attractif dans la ville en soit, si ce n'est la proximité des ruines Ek Balam et Chichen Itza.
After Merida, we head towards Valladolid a small city in the center of Yucatan. There's nothing really very attractive about the town besides its proximity to the ruins of Ek Balam and Chichen Itza.
Comme dans toute petite ville, pas grand chose à faire la nuit, la jeunesse s'ennuie, alors ils font des concours de coccinelles customisées (mdr).
As all small towns, there isn't much to do at night, so the bored youth of Volladolid amuse themselves with customized Volkswagen bug contests (lol).



Même les chiens s'ennuient, pas un chat dans la rue.
Even the dogs are bored, there is not a soul in the streets.





Du coup pour s'occuper, vu qu'on a pas d'auto avec une super sono et des néons dans tous les sens, on s'amuse aux ombres chinoises dans le couvent San Bernardino.
Given that we have no customized buggy with neon lights and exploding bass sounds, we play around with our shadows in the San Bernardino monastery.
